Sampsel (also spelled Sampsell) is a small, unincorporated community located in Livingston County, Missouri. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

The Story of Sampsel

Sampsel was first laid out in 1870. This happened when a railroad line was built through the area. The community was named after J. B. F. Sampsell, who was a railroad worker.

A post office was opened in Sampsel in 1871. It was first called Sampsell Station. In 1906, its name was changed to simply Sampsell. The post office served the community for many years before closing in 1953.
