Samuel Bowden was an English doctor and poet who lived and worked during the 1700s. He was known for writing poetry and was also a medical professional.
Early Life and Works
Samuel Bowden came from a town called Frome in Somerset, England. He was a writer and published two collections of his poems between 1733 and 1735.
Life and Connections
Records from a magazine called Gentleman's Magazine suggest that Samuel Bowden was still alive in 1761. He sometimes wrote for this magazine. Later, in 1778, someone mentioned him, saying he was no longer alive.
Bowden was a friend of another poet named Elizabeth Singer Rowe. They also shared the same religious beliefs. This means Samuel Bowden was a Nonconformist. Nonconformists were Protestants in England who did not follow the official Church of England. It's possible he was related to Rev. John Bowden, who gave the speech at Mrs. Rowe's funeral.
