The Samuel Farnsworth House is a very old house in West Hartford, Connecticut, United States. It was likely built around 1797. This house is special because it's one of the few buildings from the 1700s still standing in West Hartford. It's also a rare example of a small, simple one-story home from that time. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 10, 1986. This means it's an important historical site that should be protected.

About the House

The Samuel Farnsworth House is in the northwest part of West Hartford. It sits on a small hill next to Mountain Road. A stone wall made of brownstone is in front of the house.

What It Looks Like

The house is made of wood and has one and a half stories. It has a front gable roof, which means the roof has a triangular shape at the front. There's a brick chimney in the middle of the house. The front of the house has three sections, called bays. Two windows are on either side of the main door, which is a little off-center. The back roof slopes down, making the house longer in the back. There's also another entrance on the south side. The house has simple wooden boards at its corners for decoration.

Its History

Even though a sign on the house says 1807, it was probably built in 1797. Samuel Farnsworth likely built it. This house is one of only two small, two-room cottages from that time period that are still around today.

Samuel Farnsworth bought the land in 1790 from his father-in-law, Morgan Goodwin. In 1797, Samuel sold the land, along with the house and other small buildings, to Titus Goodwin. The house stayed in the Goodwin family for many years after that.
