Samuel Haiyupis comes from Ahousaht. His grandmother was named Pawatsquii, and his grandfather was named Haiyupis. He is part of the Nuu-chah-nulth family group.
When Samuel was six years old, his family moved to Port Alberni. This was so he could start school. During his time at school, he faced some difficult experiences.
His Art Career
Samuel Haiyupis's art has been shown in important places, like the Royal British Columbia Museum. One of his most famous pieces is a carved rattle from 2010 called Kupkuumyis. This beautiful artwork is on display for everyone to see in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of History.
His Family
Samuel Haiyupis married Beverly Jack on May 5, 1984. Their wedding took place at the United Church in Ahousaht. They have a daughter named Geneva Faith Haiyupis.
