Samuel Osborne (1833–1903) was an African American man who worked as a custodian and caretaker at Colby College. He was born on October 20, 1833, in Lanesville, Virginia. At that time, he was born into slavery.

After slavery ended, Samuel and his family moved to Maine. His father first worked at Colby College. When his father passed away in 1867, Samuel took over his job as custodian. He worked at the college for many years.

Samuel and his wife, Maria Iveson Osborne, had seven children. One of their daughters, Marion, made history in 1900. She became the first African-American woman to graduate from Colby College.

Samuel Osborne worked at Colby College for 37 years. His time there was not always easy. He received low pay from the school. He also faced unfair treatment from some students.

In 2017, Colby College decided to honor Samuel Osborne. They renamed the president's house at the school after him. It is now called Osborne House. This was done to recognize his 37 years of service. It also highlights his important place in the college's history.
