The Samuel W. Temple House is a historic building in Tecumseh, Michigan. It stands at 115 West Shawnee Street, right where it meets North Pearl Street. This house is important because it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was added to this special list on August 13, 1986. It's also known as a Michigan Historic Site.

What the House Looks Like

This house has two main parts. The taller part has a pointed roof, called a gable roof. There's also a shorter, one-story section. This smaller part has an entrance and a porch. The house mixes two cool styles: Italianate and Late Victorian.

The taller part of the house has a front porch. This porch covers the whole front of that section. The front door is here, with windows on its sides and above it. There are also two windows on this level, each with four glass panes on top and four on the bottom. On the second floor, you'll find more windows that look similar. At the very top of the pointed roof, there's a rectangular window with a fancy design.

The one-story part of the house also has a pointed roof. On its front, there's another porch that's set back a bit. Inside this porch, you'll find another door and two more windows. A third porch is located on one side of the house. All three porches are held up by decorative posts. These posts are shaped like they were turned on a machine. They stand on square bases. There used to be a bay window on the one-story section, but it was removed a while ago.

History of the House

The Samuel W. Temple House was built around 1866. It was built for Samuel W. Temple himself. He was a very important businessman in Tecumseh. Temple moved to Tecumseh in 1859 from Vermont. He started several factories that made things from wood. He ran his lumberyard and furniture-making business right next door to his home.

For some time, the house was empty and needed repairs. But in 2013, new owners bought it. They started a full renovation to fix it up. They planned to finish the work in 2014.
