San Javier is a city located in the northeast part of the Santa Fe Province in Argentina. It is about 156 kilometers (97 miles) north-northeast of the provincial capital. In 2010, about 13,000 people lived there. San Javier is also the main town of the San Javier Department.

History of San Javier
How the City Started
San Javier was first settled in 1743. A person named Francisco de Echagüe y Andía founded the town. However, the government of the province did not officially recognize it until 1866.
Growing into a City
Over time, San Javier grew bigger. On May 25, 1884, it became a commune. A commune is like a small local government area. Later, on December 2, 1979, San Javier officially became a city.
