San José de los Remates is a small town in Nicaragua. It is part of the Boaco Department. A department is like a state or province.
This area is home to about 9,600 people (as of 2006). It covers an area of about 280 square kilometers. The main ways people make a living here are through farming and raising animals. The main town, San José de Boaco, is about 96 kilometers from Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua.
The local leader, or mayor, is Carlos Cajina Loaisiga. He helps manage the town and its services.

How San José de los Remates is Organized
The town of San José de Boaco, which is the capital of this area, is split into different neighborhoods. There are ten urban neighborhoods. These are like different parts of the town where people live.

History of San José de los Remates
The town of San José de Boaco used to be called San José de los Remates. It was officially started on March 18, 1848. This happened when José Guerrero, who was a leader in Nicaragua, told families from another area to move and settle here.
Later, on August 6, 1861, a new government leader named General Tomás Martínez officially created the municipality of San José de los Remates. This made it an official local government area.
Local Celebrations
San José de los Remates has two main celebrations each year.
- The first is on March 19. This day honors their patron saint, Saint Joseph (San José). People celebrate with corridas, which are like Nicaraguan rodeos. There are also parades and fun public parties.
- The second big holiday is on December 11 and 12. This celebration honors the Virgin of Guadalupe.
