Cinco Pinos, also known as San Juan de Cinco Pinos, is a small town and a municipality in the northern part of the Chinandega Department in Nicaragua. It is located between the towns of San Pedro del Norte and Santo Tomás del Norte. A municipality is like a local government area, similar to a county or district.

History of Cinco Pinos
Cinco Pinos was founded in 1879. People from nearby Honduras moved there and started the town. Before that, there was a tiny village called Villa Salvadorita about 2 kilometers west of where Cinco Pinos is today.
In the early 1950s, the town grew because of cotton farming. Cotton became a very important crop. Because of this growth, the town was given its full name, San Juan de Cinco Pinos.
Local Celebrations and Traditions
Every year, Cinco Pinos celebrates its patron saint, San Caralampio. A patron saint is a special saint believed to protect a place or group of people. The festivities happen from February 9 to 11. During this time, people enjoy the traditional Toro Huaco dance and listen to chichero music.
Geography and Population
Most of the people living in San Juan de Cinco Pinos municipality live in rural areas. This means they live in the countryside, not in the main town. Only about 21% of the people live in the town of Cinco Pinos itself. The rest are spread out across 14 smaller areas called comarcas. A comarca is a local district or region.
