San Luis is a special area in Guatemala. It is called a municipality. This area is part of the El Petén department.
San Luis is shaped like a rectangle. It covers about 2,915 square kilometers. Around 44,903 people live here. There are about 140 small villages, called hamlets. The main town, also called San Luis, is the capital of the municipality.

The people in San Luis mostly work in farming. They also have small businesses. These include making custom furniture. They also offer building services.
Neighborhoods and Schools
The main town of San Luis has several neighborhoods. These include El Centro, Tikajal, and Bethel. Other areas are Vista Hermosa, La Florida, El Estadio, La Cruce, and El Paraiso.
Each neighborhood has a public school. There are also some private schools. One special school is Centro Maya Asuncion. It helps Mayan teenage girls from faraway villages.
Community and Leadership
Jesus Claros Aliaraza helps manage the municipality. The Comboni Missionaries represent the Catholic community. They help with many local activities.
Languages Spoken
People in San Luis speak different languages. These include Spanish, Q’eqchi’, and Mopan Maya.
Protecting the Environment
San Luis is surrounded by steep, hilly forests. These forests are very important. However, cutting down trees, called deforestation, is a problem. It harms the environment around San Luis. Protecting these forests is important for the future.
