Becoming a Capital City

From 1749 to 1777, San Miguel de Horcasitas was very important. It served as the capital city for the province of Sonora. This meant it was the main center for government and decisions in the region.

In 1814, San Miguel de Horcasitas officially became a town, also known as an ayuntamiento. This was one of the very first towns to be established in the state of Sonora.
