San Miguel del Padrón is one of the 15 special areas, called municipalities, that make up the big city of Havana, Cuba. It is located on the southeastern side of Havana. This area stretches from a place called Ciudad Mar all the way to Diezmero. It also goes from Reparto Mañana to Caballo Blanco.

History and Development of San Miguel
In the late 1940s, this large area was mostly empty. Only a few wealthy people and landowners lived there. Things changed a lot in the early 1960s. Many new people moved in, especially when a new area called Corea appeared. This area was settled by people who needed homes. New houses also started to pop up along the main street, known as Calzada de San Miguel.
By the middle of the 1960s, San Miguel del Padrón became an official neighbor to Guanabacoa. This meant they shared administrative duties.
Culture and Community Life
San Miguel del Padrón is well-known for its talented people. Many famous musicians and professional dancers have come from this area. It is also a place where Afro-Cuban religious practices are important. Religions like Santería, Lukumi, and Palo are practiced here.
Within San Miguel del Padrón, there is a neighborhood called Veracruz. A large number of the town's people live in Veracruz. This neighborhood has many older apartment buildings. These buildings were built before 1970.
Veracruz is home to the Heroes de Yaguajay primary school. There is also a baseball field where people can play. A farmers market is available for buying fresh food.

In 2004, the municipality of San Miguel del Padrón had a population of 159,273 people. The total size of the area is about 26 square kilometers (10 square miles). This means that about 6,126 people live in each square kilometer.
Today, people living in areas around Virgen del Camino, Martin Perez, Diezmero, San Francisco de Paula, and Juanelo consider themselves "Sanmiguelinos." This makes San Miguel del Padrón a very populated part of Havana.
