History of San Pedro
During a time known as the French intervention in Mexico, some of the lands around San Pedro belonged to Doña Luisa Ibarra de Zuloaga. She was connected to Empress Carlota. After the republic was brought back, the government took control of these lands. This included ranches called “La Chona” and “El Hormiguero.”
These lands were then given to Don Jerónimo Treviño. He was a hero from the Battle of Santa Isabel in 1866. Soldiers who had fought for the republic were given parts of this land by the governor of Coahuila. This is how many people came to settle in the area.
Sister Cities Program
San Pedro has a special connection with another city far away. This is part of a program called "Sister Cities." San Pedro's sister city is Springfield, Illinois in the United States. This program helps cities from different countries learn from each other and build friendships.
