Sancha of Aragon (born in Gaeta in 1478, died in Naples in 1506) was a princess. She was the daughter of King Alfonso II of Naples and Trogia Gazzella. In 1494, she married Gioffre Borgia. He was the youngest son of Pope Alexander VI.

After their marriage, Sancha and Gioffre became the Prince and Princess of Squillace. This was a region in southern Italy. For most of their marriage, Sancha and her husband lived in the Vatican. They stayed with Gioffre's family, the Borgias. Sancha became good friends with her sister-in-law, Lucrezia. She also got along with her husband's older brothers, Juan and Cesare Borgia.

Life with the Borgia Family

Sancha's life with the Borgia family became complicated. Her brother, Alfonso of Aragon, married Lucrezia Borgia. This made the two families even more connected.

Political Changes and Challenges

Cesare Borgia made an important marriage to a French princess, Charlotte d'Albret. This marriage helped him get support from France for his military plans. However, Cesare's goals sometimes went against the interests of Italian states. Sancha's home city of Naples was one of these states. Naples had been worried about France's growing power for a long time.

Difficult Times and Imprisonment

It is believed that Sancha's brother, Alfonso, died under suspicious circumstances in 1500. This happened because of conflicts between France and Naples. After this, Sancha became a problem for the Borgia family's plans. She was held in Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome. She stayed there until Pope Alexander VI died in 1503.

Later Life and Family

After the Pope's death, Sancha was able to leave. She went back to Naples with her young nephew, Rodrigo. She raised Rodrigo as if he were her own son. She never lived with her husband, Gioffre, again.

Caring for Children

Not long after, Cesare Borgia visited Sancha. He asked her to care for a child named Giovanni. Giovanni was known as "The Roman Infant." He was possibly Lucrezia's child, but more likely the child of Pope Alexander VI. Sancha agreed to care for him.

Sancha of Aragon died in 1506 from an illness. This was one year before Cesare Borgia also died.
