Sand Creek Station Golf Course is a fun 18-hole public golf course located near Newton, Kansas. It was designed by a famous golf course architect named Jeff Brauer. The course uses a special type of grass called bent grass, which is great for playing golf.
This golf course has some cool and unique features. An active railway runs right through the course. Also, Sand Creek borders four of the holes. There are also eleven custom-made ponds around the course. Golf carts can cross Sand Creek using a wooden bridge. There's even a concrete tunnel that lets carts go safely under the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. A path for biking and walking also runs along the tracks, connecting the course to Southwest 14th Street.
About the Golf Course
This golf course is known as a "links-style" course. This means it looks a bit like the old golf courses found in Scotland, often with open spaces and natural features. The course has 18 holes and is a "par-72" course. This means a good golfer is expected to finish the course in 72 strokes. The entire course stretches out over 7,200 yards. It is built on native grass, which helps it blend in with the natural landscape.
Sand Creek Station is one of the top golf courses in Kansas. In 2007, Golfweek Magazine said it was the second-best public course in the state. Only Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kansas was ranked higher.
