Sandra Pani (born December 18, 1964) is a talented artist from Mexico City, Mexico. She is known for her unique paintings and drawings.

Early Life and Art Journey

Sandra Pani loved painting and music from a young age. She started piano lessons when she was nine years old. As she grew up, she learned from many different art teachers.

Later, she studied at the National Conservatory of Music for a year. In 1987, she went to art school in Florence, Italy, and then in London, England, in 1988. When she returned to Mexico, she studied at the National School of Fine Arts. There, she learned about gravure, a type of printmaking.

Sandra had her very first art show in 1988 in Mexico City. Her art was also chosen for student art shows in London. She won several awards for her prints and drawings in the early 1990s. In 1996, she was invited to a special art show called Salon Bancomer II.

Her Art Career and Exhibitions

Sandra Pani has received special support for artists in Mexico. She got grants from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) in 1991 and 1998. She also became a member of the National System of Creators in 2007 and 2011. This system supports important artists in Mexico.

Her artwork has been chosen for big art shows like the Fifth Bienal Monterrey FEMSA in 2001. She has had more than twenty solo art shows, where only her work is displayed. Some of these include:

  • "If tree" at the University of Guanajuato during the Festival Internacional Cervantino (2011).
  • "Duality and transformation" at the Anahuacalli Museum (2009).
  • "From trees and bodies" in Mexico City (2008).
  • "Geography of the Body" at the Gene Byron Museum (2003).
  • "Optical Scalpel" at the Museo Diego Rivera (1998).

What Art Critics Say

Many famous art critics have written about Sandra Pani's work.

Salvador Elizondo, an art critic, said her paintings show a balance of movement and life. He felt she explored the human body in a unique, artistic way. He described her art as "anatomical inventions" that try to capture the true feeling of the human body.

Miguel Ángel Muñoz, another art critic, noted that Sandra Pani paints in a classic style. This was interesting because many artists at the time were doing very different, modern art. He said her work mixes real figures with abstract (non-realistic) ideas. He also mentioned that her drawings often show the "essence" of things, like a simple sign that means a lot.

Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros from Casa Lamm Gallery said Sandra Pani uses just a few lines to create powerful images. He felt her art moves between clear figures and abstract shapes. It's like she shows what's "missing" in a way that makes it even more powerful.

Alberto Blanco, a writer for the journal Artes de México, described her paintings as "painted bodies." He said her art shows the body's structure, but it also turns into trees and flowers. He felt her paintings connect the body, music, and nature.

Gonzalo Vélez, another art critic, said Sandra Pani focuses deeply on drawing and the human body. He noted that her work explores the line between drawing and painting. He also said her paintings show bodies changing and connecting with the space around them.
