What the Monastery Looks Like
The monastery building is shaped like a rectangle, a bit wider than it is long. Inside, three strong pillars help hold up the main hall, called the nave.
Inside the Monastery
The three main parts of the building have curved ceilings, like a tunnel. These ceilings were once painted with beautiful pictures. You can still see some small pieces of these old paintings today.
Outside the Monastery
Outside, the rounded ends of the building, called apses, are decorated in a special way. This style is called Lombard. It uses fake arches and flat columns on the walls. The main apse has windows and a decorative band of arches. The bell tower is square and has two levels. The top level has two arched windows on each side. The roof of the tower is sloped on all four sides.
The Cloister Garden
The cloister is a peaceful, open courtyard with covered walkways around it. It was built in the second half of the 11th century. It looks similar to the cloister at the Santa Maria de l'Estany monastery. The walkways have columns, with extra columns at the corners. The tops of these columns, called capitals, are carved with designs of plants and geometric shapes.
