Where is Santa Catalina?
This village is found along Route 2, which is an important road in Uruguay. It is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) northwest of a town called Cardona. It is also about 12 kilometers (7 miles) southeast of José Enrique Rodó. A railroad track that connects Montevideo to Mercedes also goes right through the village.
A Look at Santa Catalina's History
Santa Catalina has an interesting history. On December 19, 1940, the area was officially recognized as a "Pueblo." This is a Spanish word meaning "village." Before this, it was known as the main center for the "Arroyo el Medio" judicial section. This means it was an important local area for legal matters.
