Santa Lucía is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Honduras. It is found in the department of Intibucá.
This town is tucked away in a valley next to the San Juan river. It is surrounded by the remote mountains of the Intibucá area. Even though it has been one of the poorer towns, things have been getting better. In recent years, the town has seen good improvements in its buildings and public services.

Helping the Community: Healthcare Improvements
In the 1990s, some important changes happened in Santa Lucía. The University of Cincinnati and a group called Shoulder to Shoulder worked together. They helped build a special health center on the edge of town.
This health center is very important. It is the only place for healthcare for Santa Lucía and 10 other nearby villages. The center has several doctor's offices, a small place to get medicine, and a dental office. There are full-time staff members who work there all year. Also, medical students and other volunteers from the University of Cincinnati and other schools come to help. They offer free health check-ups and teach people how to stay healthy.
