Early Life and Studies
Santiago Auserón went to the University of Madrid from 1972 to 1977. There, he studied philosophy, which is about big ideas and how we think. After that, he spent a year studying at the University of Vincennes in Saint-Denis, near Paris, France.
Music Career
Radio Futura
In 1979, Santiago Auserón started the band Radio Futura. This band became a big part of a special cultural movement in Madrid called "the Madrilenian scene" (or Movida Madrileña). This movement was a time of great creativity and change in music, art, and culture in Spain.
Juan Perro: Solo Artist
In 1992, Santiago Auserón decided to leave Radio Futura. He then began his own music career as a solo artist. For his solo work, he used the stage name "Juan Perro." As Juan Perro, he focused on Latin-rock music. He played an important role in helping people in Spain rediscover the amazing Music of Cuba. This happened even before the famous Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club project made Cuban music popular around the world.
