Santiago Auserón, also known by his stage name Juan Perro, is a famous Spanish singer and songwriter. He was born on July 25, 1954, in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. Santiago is well-known for his amazing music and lyrics. He was the lead singer and songwriter for a very popular Spanish rock band called Radio Futura.

Santiago Auserón has received many awards for his music. In 2017, he won the Aragón Music Prize for his long career. He also won the Cubadisco Prize for the Best International Album in 2017. In 2019, he received the Aragón Music Prize again, this time for the Best Soloist.

Early Life and Studies

Santiago loved learning and studying! From 1972 to 1977, he went to the University of Madrid. There, he studied philosophy, which is about big ideas and how we think about the world. After that, he traveled to Paris, France. He spent a year studying at the University of Vincennes in Saint-Denis.

Music Career

Radio Futura Years

In 1979, Santiago Auserón helped create the band Radio Futura. This band became a very important part of a cool cultural movement in Madrid. This movement was called "the Madrilenian scene" (or Movida Madrileña in Spanish). It was a time of new ideas and creativity in music, art, and film in Spain. Radio Futura released many popular albums during this time.

Becoming Juan Perro

In 1992, Santiago Auserón left Radio Futura to start his own music career. He began performing under the name "Juan Perro." As Juan Perro, he created a unique Latin-rock sound. He also played a big role in helping people in Spain rediscover Cuban music. This happened even before the famous Buena Vista Social Club project by Ry Cooder made Cuban music popular around the world.
