Santiago de Chiquitos is a small, interesting town in Bolivia. It's located in the Santa Cruz Department, within the Chiquitos Province. This town is famous for its old mission church, which is part of the important Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos.

Santiago de Chiquitos is about 467 kilometers (290 miles) east of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a big city in Bolivia. The town of Roboré is also nearby, just 22 kilometers away. In 2012, about 1,927 people lived here. The town is also found inside the beautiful Tucavaca Valley Municipal Reserve.

Founding the Mission

The history of Santiago de Chiquitos began a long time ago. In 1754, two Jesuit missionaries, Gaspar Troncoso and Gaspar Campos, founded the Jesuit Mission here. These missions were special places built by Jesuits to teach local people and share their culture.
