Early Life and Art Studies

Sarah Gough Adamson was born in 1888 in Manchester. Her father, Robert Adamson, was a professor of philosophy. Sarah loved art from a young age.

She decided to study art formally. Sarah attended the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. This school helped her develop her skills as a painter.

Exhibiting Her Art

After her studies, Sarah Gough Adamson began to show her artwork. She often displayed her paintings in Scotland. Between 1911 and 1915, she showed 29 pictures at the Royal Scottish Academy. These works included watercolours and gouache pieces.

Around 1915, Sarah moved to London. She continued to exhibit her art in many important places. She showed her work at the Royal Academy in London. Her art was also seen at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. The Aberdeen Artists' Society also featured her paintings.

International Recognition

Sarah's talent was recognized beyond Britain. In 1913, she exhibited her art in Paris. Her work was shown at the Salon des Artistes Francais. This was a very important art show.

In 1924, Sarah won a special award. She received a silver medal at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris. This showed how much her art was appreciated internationally.
