Sarah Catherine Hendrickson (born August 1, 1994) is an American retired ski jumper. She made history in the sport. Sarah won the very first women's World Cup season in 2012. She also earned a gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.

Sarah Hendrickson's Ski Jumping Journey
Early Life and Education
Sarah Hendrickson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She went to Park City High School for a while. In 2011, she started competing in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. This meant she needed a special school. She then moved to The Winter Sports School in Park City. Sarah graduated from there in November 2012.
Dominating the World Cup
The 2011/12 season was the first time women had their own World Cup in ski jumping. Sarah Hendrickson was amazing that year. She won nine different competitions. Her first big win was on December 3, 2011, in Lillehammer, Norway.
In the next season, 2012/13, Sarah continued to do very well. She won four more World Cup events. She finished second overall, right behind her rival Sara Takanashi. Sarah also achieved a huge victory at the 2013 Ski Jumping World Championships. She won the women's event in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
Overcoming Challenges and Olympic History
On August 21, 2013, Sarah faced a big challenge. She had a serious knee injury in Oberstdorf, Germany. She needed surgery to fix a damaged ligament. Many top female jumpers had similar injuries around that time. This injury made it tough for the U.S. women's team. They hoped for a good result at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Despite her injury, Sarah worked hard to recover. On January 22, 2014, it was announced she would make the Olympic team. This was a very special moment. Women were allowed to compete in Olympic ski jumping for the first time ever. Sarah Hendrickson had the amazing honor of being the first female to jump in an Olympic ski jumping event.
In June 2015, Sarah re-injured her knee during training. This meant she could not compete in the 2015/16 season. She showed great strength and determination to come back from these setbacks.
Notable Jumps and Olympic Return
In 2017, Sarah took part in a special event. It was sponsored by Red Bull. She jumped off the historic Nansen Ski Jump in Berlin, New Hampshire. This jump had not been used for 32 years. It was a unique experience for her.
In December 2017, Sarah won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. This secured her spot on the U.S. Olympic team for Pyeongchang. She continued to be a strong competitor for her country.
Sarah's World Cup Achievements
Sarah Hendrickson had a very successful career in the World Cup. She won the overall title in the 2011/12 season. This was the first-ever women's World Cup season. She also finished second overall in the 2012/13 season. Throughout her career, she won 13 individual World Cup competitions. She also reached the podium (finished in the top three) 25 times.
