Sarah's Ski Jumping Journey

Sarah Hendrickson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She went to Park City High School. Later, she moved to The Winter Sports School in Park City. This school helped her focus on her ski jumping career. She graduated in November 2012.

Early Success in World Cup

In the 2011/12 season, Sarah became a star. This was the first-ever World Cup season for women's ski jumping. She won nine competitions, showing how talented she was. Her first big win was on December 3, 2011, in Lillehammer, Norway.

The next season, 2012/13, was also very successful. Sarah won four more World Cup events. She finished second overall, right behind her rival, Sara Takanashi. Sarah also achieved a huge win at the 2013 Ski Jumping World Championships. She took home the gold medal in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Facing Challenges: Injuries

On August 21, 2013, Sarah faced a tough challenge. She had a serious knee injury during a jump in Oberstdorf, Germany. This injury needed surgery to fix a damaged ligament. Many top female jumpers faced similar injuries around this time.

Her injury made it harder for the U.S. women's team. They hoped for a good result at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. But Sarah worked hard to recover. On January 22, 2014, it was announced she would still join the Olympic team.

Sarah had a special honor at the 2014 Olympics. She was the first woman ever to jump in an Olympic ski jumping event. This was a historic moment, as women were allowed to compete in Olympic ski jumping for the first time.

In June 2015, Sarah re-injured her knee. This meant she could not compete in the 2015/16 season. She showed great strength and determination to come back from these setbacks.

Return to the Slopes

In 2017, Sarah took part in a special event. She jumped off the historic Nansen Ski Jump in Berlin, New Hampshire. This jump had not been used for 32 years! It was an exciting moment for the sport.

In December 2017, Sarah won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. This secured her spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the Pyeongchang Games. She continued to inspire many with her dedication.

World Cup Achievements

Sarah Hendrickson achieved great success in the World Cup. She won the overall title in the 2011/12 season. This was a golden start to her career. The next season, 2012/13, she earned a silver medal for her overall performance.

She won a total of 13 World Cup competitions. These wins happened across different locations and seasons. Her victories showed her skill and consistency in ski jumping.
