Sarah Lean was born in a place called Wells in Somerset, England. Before she went to university, she had many different jobs. She worked as someone who planned newspaper pages, a stencil-maker, and even a gardener!

She went to the University of Winchester and studied English. She earned top grades, hoping to become a primary school teacher. But soon, she went back to university to get a special degree called a Master of Arts (MA) in Creative and Critical Writing. This helped her become an even better writer.

Her First Book and Awards

Sarah Lean published her very first book, A Dog Called Homeless, in 2012. This book was a big success! It sold more than 15,000 copies. In 2013, it won the Schneider Family Book Award for books written for middle school students. This award is given to books that show the experience of a disability in a positive way.

In 2014, Sarah Lean was chosen as a special author for World Book Day. This is a big event that celebrates books and reading. People often say her books are "inspiring," "compelling" (meaning they really grab your attention), and "touching."
