Sarah McIntyre is a super talented British American artist and writer. She creates amazing books and comics for kids!
Sarah studied Russian and Art History at Bryn Mawr College. Later, she earned a Master's Degree in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts. Today, she works from her studio in Bovey Tracey, Devon, England. She lives there with her husband, Stuart.
Sarah has won many cool awards for her work. In 2010, her illustrations for Morris the Mankiest Monster won the Sheffield Children's Book award. This book also won the Bishop's Stortford Picture Book Award that same year.
Her book Oliver and the Seawigs, which she made with Philip Reeve, won the UKLA Book Award in 2015. Another book with Philip Reeve, Pugs of the Frozen North, won the Independent Bookshop Week Book Award in 2016.
Sarah also won the Leeds Graphic Novel Award in 2011 for Vern and Lettuce. This comic strip first appeared in The DFC and The Guardian newspapers. Her comic strip Shark & Unicorn was featured in The Sunday Times for three years.
Sarah loves to get involved in fun projects. She helped design "Monsterville" at the Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford, London. She also helped with their online "StoryCloud" project. In 2012, she organized "The Comics Big-Top of Awesome" at a festival in London.
In 2015, Sarah started an important project called #Pictures Mean Business. This campaign asks for illustrators to get more recognition and credit for their work in books. Because of her efforts, The Bookseller magazine named her one of their "Rising Stars" in 2016.
