About Her Career

The Straw Bale House

Her company designed the Straw Bale House in Islington, London. This house was built for Sarah Wigglesworth and her partner, Jeremy Till. It also served as an office for her company. The house is made from unusual materials like straw bales, sandbags filled with cement, and gabions filled with recycled concrete. Sarah Wigglesworth said it was not like a "traditional green building." Her goal was to make eco-friendly architecture more common in cities. The house was even shown on the TV show Grand Designs in 1999.
