Sargent, Texas County, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sargent is a small, unincorporated community located in the southern part of Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

This community is right next to the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks. It's about four miles (about 6.4 kilometers) southeast of a town called Cabool. The border between Texas County and Howell County is only about two miles (about 3.2 kilometers) south of Sargent. A stream named Potter Creek flows along the east side of the community.

History of Sargent

Sargent has a simple but interesting history. A post office was opened here in 1884, which means people could send and receive mail right in their community. This post office served the area for many years before it finally closed in 1931.

The community was named after a person with the last name Sargent. He was a railroad employee, likely someone important who helped with the railroad's development in the area. Railroads were very important in the past for connecting communities and moving goods.
