The story of Sargent & Greenleaf began in 1857. A person named James Sargent started a company called the James Sargent Lock Company.
In 1864, James Sargent moved his business to Rochester, New York. The company's name was later changed to Sargent & Greenleaf. A year later, in 1865, Halbert S. Greenleaf joined the company as an equal partner. He used to be James Sargent's employer.
Today, the main office for Sargent & Greenleaf is in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The company is now part of a bigger group called Stanley Security Solutions.
