Scientific classification

The Sargent crabapple, also known as Malus sargentii, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the Malus group, which includes apples and crabapples. This plant is part of the Rosaceae family, which also has roses and cherries.

This crabapple used to be thought of as a type of Malus sieboldii. It grows as a bush or a small tree. It can reach a height of 6–10 ft (1.8–3.0 m) and spread out 6–12 ft (1.8–3.7 m) wide.

What is the Sargent Crabapple?

The Sargent crabapple comes from Japan. People often plant it in other places because it is a beautiful, small bush or tree. It is known for its lovely flowers and fruits.

How Does it Look and Grow?

Every two years, the Sargent crabapple produces many pink buds. These buds open into sweet-smelling white flowers. In the fall, the tree grows many small, round, red fruits. These fruits stay on the tree even through winter, adding color to the landscape.
