Sariwŏn (Hangul: 사리원) is an important city in North Korea. It is the capital city of North Hwanghae Province. This means it is the main city where the government of that province is located.

In 2008, about 307,764 people lived in Sariwŏn. This makes it a large city in North Korea.
How Sariwŏn is Divided
Sariwŏn is split into smaller areas for easier management. These areas are called tong (neighborhoods) and ri (villages). There are 31 neighborhoods and 9 villages in the city.
Healthcare for Kids
Sariwŏn has a special hospital just for children. It was built in the 1950s with help from Hungary. This hospital helps about 500,000 children and teenagers every year. It serves many different districts around the city.
What Sariwŏn Makes
Sariwŏn is home to some important factories. One factory makes potash fertilizer, which helps plants grow. There is also a factory that builds tractors, which are used in farming.

Sariwŏn has several colleges and universities. These schools offer higher education in different subjects. Some of them include:

Fun Places to Visit
Sariwŏn has a special area called the "Sariwŏn Folklore street." It was built to show what ancient Korea might have looked like. You can see buildings in an old style and a collection of old Korean cannons there. Many other old-style Korean buildings are also found in the city.
A hotel called Jongbangsan Hotel opened in 2020. It has three main buildings, a gym, and a swimming pool for guests.
Getting Around Sariwŏn
Sariwŏn has a railway system that helps people travel. The city is served by Sariwŏn Ch'ŏngnyŏn Station and other stations. These stations are on the P'yŏngbu and Hwanghae Ch'ŏngnyŏn lines.
The city also has a trolleybus system. Trolleybuses are like buses but they get their power from overhead electric lines. Some of Sariwŏn's trolleybuses were once regular diesel buses that were changed to run on electricity.
