Sarpi (Georgian: სარფი; Turkish: Sarp) is a small village. It is on the coast of the Black Sea. Sarpi is in the country of Georgia. It sits right on the border with Turkey. Many people who live here are from the Laz community.

Where is Sarpi Located?

Sarpi is a very important place. It is the main land crossing point between Georgia and Turkey. Many people travel through Sarpi for business. This is especially true for Turkish companies working in Batumi.

Sarpi is about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) south of Batumi. It is also about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) northeast of Hopa, Turkey.

Culture and Festivals in Sarpi

Sarpi is home to an old festival. It is called Kolkhoba. This festival celebrates the history and culture of the Laz.

The Kolkhoba Festival

The Kolkhoba festival happens every year. It takes place in late August or early September. During the festival, people act out the ancient myth of the Argonauts. This myth tells the story of Jason and his crew. They sailed to Colchis (an ancient region in Georgia) to find the Golden Fleece.
