Sartène (called Sartè in the Corsican language) is a charming town in Southern Corsica, France. It's part of the Corse-du-Sud département, which is like a county or region. Sartène is famous for its old buildings made of granite, many of which date back to the 1500s.

One of the most important events in the town's history was an attack by pirates from Algiers in 1583. During this attack, about 400 people were captured and taken away. Pirate attacks continued to be a problem for Sartène until the 1700s.

The heart of Sartène is the Place de la Libération, which used to be called Place Porta. Right next to this main square is the beautiful Church of Sainte Marie. From the town, you can enjoy amazing views across the valley. Sartène is also known for its local wine, which many people enjoy.

The town has even given its name to a special way of speaking. One of the southern-Corsican dialects sounds very similar to the Sardinian language.
