Corse-du-Sud is a part of France located on the southern side of the island of Corsica. Until 2018, it was an administrative area known as a "department." On January 1, 2018, it merged with Haute-Corse (the northern part of the island) to form a single region called Corsica. People who live in Corse-du-Sud are sometimes called "Southerners."

History of Southern Corsica
The department of Corse-du-Sud was created on September 15, 1975. Before this, the entire island of Corsica was just one department. It was then split into two: Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud. The borders of Corse-du-Sud were similar to an older department called Liamone, which existed a long time ago, from 1793 to 1811.
In 2003, there was a special vote, called a referendum, in Corsica. People voted on whether the island should have more independence from France. A small majority of people, about 50.98 percent, voted against having more independence. This decision was important for the French government at the time.
Geography of Corse-du-Sud
Corse-du-Sud is surrounded by the beautiful Mediterranean Sea on three sides. To its north, it shares a border with the department of Haute-Corse. The entire island of Corsica is known for its mountains and many lovely beaches.
Tourism and Attractions
This part of Corsica has a warm and mild climate, which is typical for Mediterranean islands. This makes it a very popular place for tourists to visit.
One of its most famous tourist spots is the city of Bonifacio. A unique part of this city is built right on top of a huge cliff, offering amazing views.
The mountains in Corse-du-Sud are also very beautiful. A popular place to see is the Aiguilles de Bavella. These are tall, needle-like rock formations that stand out in the landscape.
