Sasamón is a town and a municipality located in the province of Burgos, Castile and León, Spain. A municipality is like a local government area. In 2004, about 1,346 people lived here.
Long ago, before the Roman Empire arrived, Sasamón was called Segisama. It was the main town for a tribe called the Turmodigi. Later, when Roman emperor Augustus was in charge, Sasamón became an important base. Roman soldiers stayed here during the Cantabrian wars, which were battles fought in northern Spain.
