Satbayev is a city located in the Ulytau Region of Kazakhstan. It was known as Nikolsky until 1990. The city is named after Kanysh Satbayev. He was a very important scientist and helped start the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. In 2019, about 69,782 people lived in Satbayev.
History of Satbayev
The city of Satbayev started in 1954. It was built for people who worked as miners in the nearby city of Jezkazgan. In 1956, its name was changed to Nikolsky.
Later, in 1973, Nikolsky officially became a town. The city grew a lot because of the mining work that Kanysh Satbayev helped to explore. On September 13, 1990, the town was renamed Satbayev in his honor. Today, Satbayev is a major center for the mining industry.
Getting Around Satbayev
You can travel to and from Satbayev by train. There is a train line that connects the city to Almaty and Zhezkazgan. Zhezkazgan is another city about twenty kilometers away.
For air travel, people use the Zhezkazgan Airport. This airport is located close to Satbayev.
