38th Annual Saturn Awards - James Remar from Dexter (13971790887)
James Remar with a Saturn Award in 2011.

The Saturn Award is a special prize given out every year. It celebrates the best movies, TV shows, and home videos. These works are usually in the science fiction, fantasy, or horror genres.

What Are the Saturn Awards?

The Saturn Awards are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. This group was started by Dr. Donald A. Reed. He believed that science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies did not get enough recognition. He wanted to create an award just for them.

The Award's Look

The award itself looks like the planet Saturn. It has a ring around it made to look like a strip of photographic film. Sometimes, people still call the award a Golden Scroll.

How Winners Are Chosen

Just like the Oscars, the Emmys, and the Grammys, members of the Academy vote for the winners. There are also special awards given to people for their amazing work over many years.

The very first Saturn Awards were given out in 1972.
