Sauk people facts for kids
The Sac or Sauk people are a group of Native Americans. They are part of the Eastern Woodlands culture group. They first met the French in 1667. At that time, they mostly lived near what is now Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Today, the Sac people have three tribes that the United States government officially recognizes. These tribes are connected with the Meskwaki (Fox) people. They live in the states of Iowa, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

Where Sac Tribes Live Now
- Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma: This is one of the largest Sac tribes. They are located in central Oklahoma.
- Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa: Also known as the Meskwaki Nation. They have their own settlement in Iowa.
- Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska: This tribe is located in the northeastern part of Kansas and southeastern Nebraska.
These tribes manage their own affairs. They work to improve the lives of their members. They also share their rich heritage with others.
