Saurimo, once called Henrique de Carvalho, is an important city in Angola. It is the main city, or capital, of the Lunda Sul Province. In 2014, about 393,000 people lived there. This number keeps growing as more people move to the city.

History of Saurimo
The city was named Henrique de Carvalho after a Portuguese explorer. He visited the area in 1884. He was the first to meet the local Lunda people. In 1956, Saurimo officially became a city.
Geography and Location
Saurimo is in the northeastern part of Angola. It sits high up, about 1,084 meters (3,556 feet) above sea level. The city is known as a garrison town, which means it has a military base. It is also a busy local market where people buy and sell goods.
Economy and Industries
The main ways people make a living in Saurimo are through farming and growing crops. Diamonds are also a very important part of the economy.
Other smaller jobs include fishing and making handicrafts.

- Endiama is a company that helps sell diamonds from Saurimo all over the world.
Transportation in Saurimo
Saurimo has its own airport, called Saurimo Airport. You can fly from here to Luanda, which is the capital city of Angola.
There are also plans to build a new train line. This line would connect Saurimo to Luena. Luena is on the Benguela Railway, a major train route. This new line would make it easier to travel and transport goods.
