Save Max Sports Centre

The Save Max Sports Centre in Brampton is a big sports building that used to be called the Brampton Soccer Centre. It opened its doors on June 25, 2007. In 2020, a company called Save Max Real Estate Inc. made a deal with the City of Brampton to put their name on the outside of the building for 15 years. This is why it's now known as the Save Max Sports Centre.

History of the Sports Centre

How the Centre Started

The idea for this sports centre came from local leaders in Brampton. A city councillor, Garnett Manning, and Mayor Susan Fennell helped push for a new recreation spot. They wanted to build it at the corner of Dixie Road and Sandalwood Parkway.

Original Plans and Changes

At first, the plan was for the centre to host many sports. These included ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. However, people in the community shared their thoughts. Because of this feedback, the plans changed. The building became a place just for soccer. You can still see hints of the old plans, though. Each of the four indoor soccer fields has special access for a machine called a Zamboni. Zambonis are usually used to smooth ice rinks.

Building and Grand Opening

A company named Atlas Corporation built the centre. It cost about $26.9 million to create this large facility. When the centre officially opened, around 2000 people came to celebrate. They enjoyed a big community barbecue and took a giant group photo to remember the special day.
