Scarface Claw facts for kids
Scarface Claw is a made-up male cat from the popular Hairy Maclary children's books. These stories were written by New Zealand author Lynley Dodd. Scarface Claw is a big, black cat with bright yellow eyes. He even has pieces missing from his ears, which makes him look even tougher! He is known as the "toughest Tom in town."
Scarface Claw's Adventures
Scarface Claw first appeared in the very first Hairy Maclary story, called Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy, which came out in 1983. In this book, he suddenly shows up from the shadows. He scares Hairy Maclary and his dog friends as they walk around town.
Scarface Claw appears in many other books after that. These include:
- Hairy Maclary Scattercat (1985)
- Caterwaul Caper (1987) – In this story, he gets stuck up a tree. His loud howling makes the whole town lose its peace and quiet!
- Rumpus at the Vet (1989)
- Hairy Maclary's Showbusiness (1991) – This book is about a cat show. Scarface Claw wins a prize for being the "Most Bad-Tempered" cat!
- Slinky Malinki Catflaps (1998)
His Own Story
Scarface Claw got his very own book in 2001, simply called Scarface Claw. In this special story, he seems brave and unafraid of anything. He doesn't get scared by dogs, loud thunderstorms, or even big, hairy spiders! However, at the end of the book, he sees his own reflection in a dusty mirror. This unexpected sight makes him completely terrified!
Scarface Claw was also set to star in a new picture book. It was called Scarface Claw, Hold Tight and was planned for release on October 2, 2017.
Scarface Claw in Exhibitions
Scarface Claw has even been the main character in an art show! This exhibition was called "The Life and Times of Scarface Claw." It featured more than 40 drawings of this famous cat. The show celebrated him as "the roughest and toughest, boldest and bravest of cats."
