Slinky Malinki is based on Lynley Dodd's own cat, Wooskit, who lived with her for 13 years. The Guardian newspaper even listed Slinky Malinki as one of the top ten cats in children's books! The original drawings of Slinky Malinki have been shown in different places as part of a travelling art show.
