Myrciaria glomerata, often called cabeludinha-vermelha (which means red cabeludinha) or cabeluda-escarlate (scarlet cabeluda), is a special type of plant. It belongs to the Myrtaceae family, which also includes plants like eucalyptus and guava. This plant is an evergreen shrub or a small tree.
It is found only in the northern and eastern parts of Brazil. This means it is endemic to Brazil, growing naturally nowhere else in the world.
Discovering Cabeludinha-Vermelha
The Myrciaria glomerata plant can grow quite tall, reaching up to 8 metres (about 26 feet). It is known for its delicious red fruits. These fruits are about 20 millimetres (less than an inch) across.
What the Fruit is Like
The fruit of the Myrciaria glomerata has a slightly yellow inside. This part is called the pulp. It is very rich in Vitamin C, which is important for keeping you healthy!
What the Plant Looks Like
The leaves of the Myrciaria glomerata are simple and grow opposite each other on the stem. They are shaped a bit like a spear and have veins like a feather. They feel a bit like paper.
Each leaf is usually between 3 and 4 centimetres (about 1.2 to 1.6 inches) wide. They are also between 9 and 11 centimetres (about 3.5 to 4.3 inches) long. The top side of the leaves is a shiny dark green. The underside is a lighter green and has many tiny hairs. These hairs are a helpful clue for telling this plant apart from others.
