Her mother, Gisa Singh, was a model from Austria. Schandra also has a sister, Sabine Singh, who is an actress.
Schandra went to Saddle River Day School. She then studied art at college. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Rhode Island School of Design in 1999. Later, she received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Yale School of Art in 2006. These are advanced degrees in art.
