History of Schimpff's Candy
How Schimpff's Began
The Schimpff family has been making delicious candy for a very long time. They started making candy in the Louisville, Kentucky area way back in the 1850s. That's over 170 years ago!
Opening the Store
The candy store you see today opened its doors on April 11, 1891. It was started by Gustav Schimpff Sr. and his son, Gustav Jr. The family even lived right above the store, making it a true family business.
Challenges and Changes
In 1937, the store faced a big challenge when the first and second floors were flooded. But the family kept the business going!
New Generation Takes Over
Today, the company is run by Jill and Warren Schimpff. They are the fourth generation of the family to own the business. They took over in 1990, continuing the sweet tradition.
Expanding for Visitors
Since the year 2000, Schimpff's Confectionery has grown even more. They added a special candy museum. They also created a demonstration area. This is where visitors can watch candy being made right in front of their eyes!
