Scholz Garten (also known as Scholz Beer Garden) is a famous restaurant and gathering place in downtown Austin, Texas. It's super old! In fact, it's the oldest business that's still open in all of Texas.

Scholz Garten: A Historic Gathering Place
The Beginning of Scholz Garten
A German immigrant named August Scholz opened Scholz Garten in 1866. This was right after the American Civil War. It quickly became a popular spot for German families and their friends in Austin. They came to enjoy food, drinks, and good company.
A Place for Everyone
In 1914, a group called The Saengerrunde Club bought Scholz Garten. They still own it today! This place is famous for many things. People love to meet here to talk about important community topics. It's also a favorite spot for fans of the University of Texas sports teams.
Becoming a Landmark
Scholz Garten is a very important historical place. In 1967, it was named a Texas Historic Landmark. Later, in 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as a special building in the whole country. In 1986, some new people, including Eddie Wilson, took over the business lease. They helped fix up the place in 1987, keeping its history alive.
