Location of Scipio, Ohio

Scipio is a small place in the United States that isn't officially a town or city. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a mayor or city council. Scipio is special because it's located in two different states at once! Part of it is in Franklin County, Indiana, and the other part is in Butler County, Ohio. You can find Scipio right where two main roads, State Route 126 and State Route 129, cross paths.

A Glimpse into Scipio's Past

Scipio was officially planned out, or platted, way back in 1826. When a place is platted, it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be. This helps organize how the community will grow.

For a short time, Scipio even had its own post office! It was open from 1836 to 1839. Interestingly, this post office wasn't called Scipio; it had a different name: Philanthropy. Philanthropy means the desire to help others, often by giving money or time. It's a kind and generous word for a post office!
