Seamus Tansey, also known as Séamus Tansey, was a very talented Irish flute player. He was born in 1943 in a place called Gorteen in County Sligo, Ireland. Seamus became famous for his amazing traditional Irish music. He passed away on July 9, 2022.

About Seamus Tansey

Seamus Tansey was a master of the Irish flute, which is a special type of flute used in traditional Irish music. He was so good that he won the top prize for flute playing at the All-Ireland Fleadh in 1965. The All-Ireland Fleadh is a big competition where the best traditional Irish musicians from all over Ireland come to show their skills. Winning this award meant he was recognized as one of the very best flute players of his time.

Seamus Tansey's music was also featured in special collections. For example, a tune called Paddy Ryan's Dream/Mamma's Pet from his album The Breeze From Erin was chosen for a special boxed set celebrating 70 years of Topic Records in 2009. Another one of his tunes, "Sean McKenna's Reels," was part of a compilation album called The Champions in 1974, which featured music from nine top Irish traditional musicians.
