His Coaching Style and Big Moments
Lazaroni is remembered for trying new ideas in Brazilian football. He tried to use a special player position called the "libero" and a team formation known as "3-5-2". This was during the 1990 FIFA World Cup. However, this plan did not work out well, and Brazil was knocked out of the tournament early by Argentina.
Despite this, Lazaroni had many successes. As the coach of the Brazil national team, he led them to win the South American Championship in 1989. This was a big deal because it was Brazil's first Copa América title in 39 years! During his time coaching Brazil, he won 21 out of 35 matches.
He also coached the Turkish club Fenerbahçe. In 1996, his team achieved something amazing. They ended the 40-year undefeated European home record of Manchester United in a UEFA Champions League match. This was a huge victory for Fenerbahçe.
Coaching in Qatar
Lazaroni took over the Qatar national team on August 1, 2011. He replaced another coach, Milovan Rajevac. However, his time with the team was short. He was fired just four months later.
The main reason for his dismissal was the team's performance. They did not get past the group stage of the 2011 Pan Arab Games, which Qatar was hosting. His record with Qatar ended with two wins, five draws, and two losses. He was officially let go on January 3, 2012.
Lazaroni also coached Qatar SC three different times. His last time coaching the club was from 2015 to 2016. This period ended in disappointment. He was dismissed in May 2016 after the club was moved down from the Qatar Stars League.
