Qatar Sports Club (Arabic: نادي قطر الرياضي) is a famous sports club from Doha, Qatar. It is best known for its amazing football team. This team plays in the top league in Qatar, called the Qatar Stars League. The club started in 1961 when two other Qatari football clubs, Al-Oruba and Al-Nasour, joined together.

The team plays its home games at the Qatar SC Stadium. This stadium is huge and can hold 13,000 fans! Besides football, Qatar SC also has other sports. They have an athletics team that competes in running, long jump, and javelin throwing. The club changed its name to Qatar SC in 1981.

History of the Club

How it Started (1972)

In 1972, the two clubs, Al-Oruba and Al-Nasour, came together. They formed a new football club called Al-Esteqlal. The first coach chosen for this new team was Saad Mohammed Saleh. Al Esteqlal was a very strong club right from the start. They won their first official Q-League season in 1972–73.

The next year, in 1974, another big club called Al Sadd hired Al Esteqlal's head coach, Hassan Othman. They also took 14 of its players, including famous ones like Hassan Mattar and Mubarak Anber. This made the club president, Hamad bin Suhaim, very upset. Back then, football players in Qatar could move to other teams easily. Even with these challenges, the club kept doing well. They won the 1976–77 season. Many of their players also became important members of the national team.

Qatar SC Today (1981–present)

Al Esteqlal changed its name to Qatar SC in 1981. For the next 20 years, other teams like Al Arabi, Al Sadd, and Al Rayyan were the strongest. But Qatar SC made a comeback!

They won the Qatar Crown Prince Cup in 2002. They also won the 2002–03 league season by three points. They won the Crown Prince Cup again in 2004 and 2009. In the 2015-16 season, the club was moved down to a lower league. But they quickly fought their way back up to the top division the very next season!
