Club History
How the Club Started (1972)
In 1972, the two clubs, Al-Oruba and Al-Nasour, combined to create a new football club called Al-Esteqlal. Saad Mohammed Saleh, a former player, became their first coach. Al Esteqlal was a very strong team from the beginning. They won their first official Q-League season in 1972–73.
The next year, in 1974, another big club called Al Sadd hired Al Esteqlal's coach, Hassan Othman. They also took 14 of Al Esteqlal's players, including famous ones like Hassan Mattar and Mubarak Anber. This made the club president, Hamad bin Suhaim, very upset. Back then, players could move between clubs easily in Qatari football. Even with these challenges, the club kept doing well. They won the 1976–77 season and helped many of their players join the national team.
Qatar SC Today (1981–Present)
Al Esteqlal changed its name to Qatar SC in 1981. For the next 20 years, other teams like Al Arabi, Al Sadd, and Al Rayyan were the strongest in the league.
However, Qatar SC made a comeback! They won the Qatar Crown Prince Cup in 2002. They also won the 2002–03 league season by three points. They won the Crown Prince Cup again in 2004 and 2009. In the 2015-16 season, the club was moved down to the Qatari Second Division. But they quickly bounced back and were promoted to the top league the very next season!
