Sebastià Juan Arbó (born 1902 – died 1984) was a famous writer from Spain. He wrote many books and plays. He used both the Catalan and Spanish languages in his works.

Sebastià Juan Arbó was born in Sant Carles de la Ràpita on October 28, 1902. He passed away in Barcelona on January 2, 1984. His writings included novels, plays, and stories about people's lives. He was also a special member of the Association of Writers in the Catalan Language. In 1948, he won a very important award called the Premio Nadal (Nadal Prize) for one of his novels.

Early Life and First Steps

Sebastià Juan Arbó grew up in a farming family. When he was eight years old, his family moved to Amposta. By the time he was twelve, he was already working in an office.

In 1927, he moved to Barcelona. This is where he started his writing journey. He began working as a journalist for well-known newspapers like La Vanguardia and ABC. He also worked for different publishing companies.

Writing Career

Sebastià Juan Arbó published his first novel in 1931. It was called L'inútil combat, which means "The Useless Battle."

In 1932, he released his most famous book, Terres de l'Ebre. This title means "Lands of the Ebro." The novel tells the story of farmers living near the Ebro delta. It shows their hard lives and how they faced challenges on their land. He turned their real-life experiences into a powerful story.

He continued to write more books. In 1933, he published Notes d'un estudiant que va morir boig. This means "Notes of a student who died insane." Then, in 1935, he wrote Camins de nit, or "Roads at Night."

After the Spanish Civil War, he took a break from publishing. He returned in 1947 with a novel called Tino Costa. This book was available in both Catalan and Spanish. Before that, in 1946, he had published a biography about the famous writer Cervantes.

From 1948 onwards, he wrote many books in Spanish. One of these was Sobre las piedras grises (On Gray Stones) in 1948. This book won him the Nadal Prize. Another important work was Martin Masks (1959).

In his later years, he went back to writing in Catalan. Some of these later works include Narracions d'Delta (Stories of the Delta) in 1965. He also wrote L'espera (The Waiting) in 1968 and La Masia (The Farmhouse) in 1975.

Sebastià Juan Arbó passed away on January 2, 1984, from a heart attack.
